Tommy Timpson was shocked when he counted up the hours he had spent getting rid of viruses and wiping unwanted porn off of his computer, both of which he exposed himself to when he downloaded illegal software. “I could have worked a minimum wage job for those same hours and bought twelve versions of this software,” he said. He then added, “I also could have paid for a couple of escorts.”
Tommy isn’t alone. Studies have shown that it takes up to 300 hours of blood, sweat, and tears followed by a last-ditch hard drive wipe to rid most computers of the viruses that people pick up when they download even a single illegal version of software, movies, and music. All in the name of saving a few bucks.
